Friday of the Fourth Week of Lent

恭读智慧篇 2:1, 12-22
恶人们胡思乱想自语说：“我们要陷害义人，因为他太令我们讨厌，反对我们的作为，指责我们违犯法律，控诉我们品行不检，自夸认识天主，自称是上主的仆人，自充我们思想的裁判员，我们一见他，就感觉讨厌；因为他的生活与众不同，他的行径与人两样。他竟将我们视作杂种，远避我们的行径，像远避不洁之物；声言义人有幸福的结局，且自夸有天主为父。我们且看他的话是否属实，看他究有什么结局。因为，如果义人是天主的儿子，天主定要帮助他，拯救他脱离敌人的手。来吧！我们用耻辱和酷刑试验他，查看他是否温良，考验他是否忍耐。我们判他受可耻的死刑，看他是否蒙受眷顾，如他所说的一样。”
他们这样思想真是荒谬，因为邪恶使他们丧失了理智，不明了天主的奥理，不希望圣德的酬报，也不赏识无罪灵魂的奖赏。
Reading 1
A reading from the Book of Wisdom 2:1a, 12-22
The wicked said among themselves,
thinking not aright:
“Let us beset the just one, because he is obnoxious to us;
he sets himself against our doings,
Reproaches us for transgressions of the law
and charges us with violations of our training.
He professes to have knowledge of God
and styles himself a child of the LORD.
To us he is the censure of our thoughts;
merely to see him is a hardship for us,
Because his life is not like that of others,
and different are his ways.
He judges us debased;
he holds aloof from our paths as from things impure.
He calls blest the destiny of the just
and boasts that God is his Father.
Let us see whether his words be true;
let us find out what will happen to him.
For if the just one be the son of God, he will defend him
and deliver him from the hand of his foes.
With revilement and torture let us put him to the test
that we may have proof of his gentleness
and try his patience.
Let us condemn him to a shameful death;
for according to his own words, God will take care of him.”
These were their thoughts, but they erred;
for their wickedness blinded them,
and they knew not the hidden counsels of God;
neither did they count on a recompense of holiness
nor discern the innocent souls’ reward.

恭读圣若望福音 7:1-2, 10, 25-30
那时候，耶稣周游于加里肋亚，而不愿周游于犹太，因为犹太人要图谋杀害他。那时，犹太人的庆节，帐棚节近了，耶稣的弟兄们上去过节以后，他也去了，但不是明显的，而是暗中去的。
于是，有几个耶路撒冷人说：“这不是人们所要图谋杀害的人吗？看，他放胆地讲论，而没有人对他说什么，难道首长们也确认这人就是默西亚吗？可是，我们知道这人是那里的；然而，当默西亚来时，却没有人知道他是那里的。” 于是耶稣在圣殿施教时，大声喊说：“你们认识我，也知道我是那里的；但我不是由我自己而来，而是那真实者派遣我来的，你们却不认识他；我认识他，因为我是出于他，是他派遣了我。” 他们想捉住他，但没有人向他下手，因为他的时辰还没有到。
Gospel
A reading from the Holy Gospel according to John 7:1-2, 10, 25-30
Jesus moved about within Galilee;
he did not wish to travel in Judea,
because the Jews were trying to kill him.
But the Jewish feast of Tabernacles was near.
But when his brothers had gone up to the feast,
he himself also went up, not openly but as it were in secret.
Some of the inhabitants of Jerusalem said,
“Is he not the one they are trying to kill?
And look, he is speaking openly and they say nothing to him.
Could the authorities have realized that he is the Christ?
But we know where he is from.
When the Christ comes, no one will know where he is from.”
So Jesus cried out in the temple area as he was teaching and said,
“You know me and also know where I am from.
Yet I did not come on my own,
but the one who sent me, whom you do not know, is true.
I know him, because I am from him, and he sent me.”
So they tried to arrest him,
but no one laid a hand upon him,
because his hour had not yet come.
